What I’m trying to say is, if you’re not willing to reciprocate my energy and love me on purpose, the way I need you to – the way I do you – if you’re not ready to honor the boundary lines we’ve set for ourselves so we remain in pleasant places, then I think we need to call it. I totally love the culture of Louisiana, and this is one of the main reasons that I chose to read, The Scars We Choose. But when I read the line, “Come ‘ere,⠀bebe,” I could hear Ms. Pinkie Perideaux, a character in this novel, saying “bebe” in her Haitian Creole accent.⠀If you are familiar with the Bayou State, then you know what I am talking about.
